The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned infielder Nick Gonzales to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
Gonzales was called up in late June and saw regular playing time, but he is heading back down after the Pirates made some moves at the deadline. Liover Peguero will replace Gonzales on second base and bat eighth in Thursday's series opener against right-hander Adrian Houser and the Milwaukee Brewers. Alfonso Rivas, who the Pirates acquired at the deadline, will start on first base and bat leadoff in his Pirates debut.
