The Tampa Bay Rays placed infielder Wander Franco on the restricted list Monday.
Franco will take a leave of absence from the Rays for at least the duration of their six-game road trip that begins on Monday against San Francisco Giants. According to the club, the Rays and Franco came to a mutual agreement on the restricted list and time away. Franco is currently under investigation by MLB for alleged inappropriate behavior. Osleivis Basabe started at shortstop in place of Franco in his MLB debut on Sunday and went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a strikeout.
Franco is averaging 12.1 FanDuel points per game this season while slashing .281/.344/.475 with 17 homers, 58 RBI, 65 runs scored, and 30 steals across 491 plate appearances.
