San Diego Padres infielder Matthew Batten is not in the lineup for Monday's series opener against right-hander Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Batten went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, and a pair of runs scored on Sunday in his first game back from the minors. Matt Carpenter is entering the lineup to play designated hitter and bat seventh on Monday. Xander Bogaerts is moving to shortstop and Ha-Seong Kim is replacing Batten on second base.
Wainwright has a 7.63 xERA and 11.6% strikeout rate that both rank among the worst in the majors this season for qualified pitchers. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Padres' implied total is 5.20, fourth-highest of the day, and the game total is 9.0. numberFire’s models project Carpenter ($2,100) for 8.4 and Kim ($3,200) for 12.7 FanDuel points on Monday.
