Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele has been scratched for Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Cubs were eliminated from playoff contention Saturday night - once thought improbable, as they had a 92% playoff probability on Sept. 6. With nothing to play for, Steele is calling it an end to his terrific 2023 campaign. Drew Smyly will take the bump instead.
Steele ends his age-27 season with 173.1 innings pitched across 30 starts, posting a 16-5 record with a 3.06 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, 176 strikeouts and 36 walks.
