The San Francisco Giants are not expecting to have starting pitcher Alex Cobb (hip) available for the start of the season.
Cobb told reporters earlier this week that he is feeling good as he recovers from offseason hip surgery, but the veteran pitcher still seems to be a ways off from making his return. He should be back on the mound before new teammate Robbie Ray (elbow), who is expected back after the All-Star break.
Cobb is not a strikeout machine, but has been an effective and reliable hand for the Giants over the last two seasons and should provide fantasy-relevant numbers whenever he is able to pitch again. He has posted a 3.80 ERA with a 1.312 OPS with the Giants.
