Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito will undergo surgery on his right elbow Tuesday afternoon.
It remains to be seen if Giolito will require full Tommy John surgery, but either way, the right-hander will not pitch in the upcoming season. The injury is a significant loss for the Red Sox's rotation.
In 184.3 innings pitched last season, Giolito recorded a 4.88 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, with 204 strikeouts (25.7%), and 73 walks.
