Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez is starting at second and batting ninth for the Cubs in Sunday's season opener versus the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ben Zobrist, who will typically start at second, will shift to right field with Jason Heyward manning center on Sunday, opening the spot up for Baez. On most days, the versatile infielder will come off the bench as a late innings defensive replacement and a pinch hitter. His at-bats will be hard to predict this season, and he needs an injury to an outfielder to free up more regular playing time.
Our models project Baez for 17 home runs, 57 RBI's, 55 runs scored, 9 stolen bases and a .263 batting average in 466 plate appearances this season.
