By the Numbers: The 10 Best NBA Teams of All-Time
How many Chicago Bulls teams from the Michael Jordan era crack the list?

8. 2015-16 San Antonio Spurs

Without the intent of beating a dead horse, we all paid so much attention to the record-setting Warriors of '15-16. It's undeniable, and the proof is in the pudding -- the pudding being the always-overlooked San Antonio Spurs.

In 2015-16, Gregg Popovich's Spurs flew under the radar with a franchise-record 67 wins and a league-leading defensive efficiency of 99 points allowed per 100 possessions. Offensively, they were also in the top five after accounting for the league's seventh-slowest pace. Their resulting margin of victory, 10.63 points, fell just short of the Warriors.

Before meeting an improbable fate, falling 4-2 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, the Spurs ran through a depleted Grizzlies team by continuing the efficient play that proved so successful in the regular season.

In Tim Duncan's final year, the Spurs earned the eighth-best SRS of all-time, with a rating of 10.28. Duncan led the league in defensive box plus-minus (5.0) and Kawhi Leonard won his second straight Defensive Player of the Year award. They had one of the greatest defensive seasons in NBA history before fizzling out just enough to disappoint in the playoffs.
