Re-Drafting the 2009 NBA Draft Using Advanced Analytics
In a draft which featured Blake Griffin, James Harden and Steph Curry, how would things change if the general managers had to do it all over again?

5 Busts

Flynn wasn't the only bust in the 2009 draft.

Although Flynn would have the biggest drop via his lack of NBA production, these five players pretty evenly shared in the disappointment, each of them dropping at least 30 spots in a re-draft.

Terrence Williams was a promising player with the Louisville Cardinals, but he never found a spot in the league. He averaged 22.6 minutes in his first year with the New Jersey Nets before seeing his minutes hover around the 15-minute mark in the next and last three seasons of his career, spread across four different franchises.

Williams' former teammate, Earl Clark, also fell short of his draft price after finishing in the Elite Eight in his final year in college. Clark had just one semi-productive season with an awful Los Angeles Lakers team in 2012-13, but he failed to average more than 7.3 points and 23.1 minutes in any of his six NBA seasons.

Tyler Hansbrough sure got the Tar Heel bump. It's true that he was a great college player in his time in Chapel Hill -- there's no denying that. However, Psycho T has only been a serviceable backup in his career and is no longer on an active NBA roster at this time. He last played for the Charlotte Hornets with an average of 7.8 minutes per game.

Eric Maynor's -2.7 VORP is the same as that of Flynn, which is last among all players who have appeared in an NBA game since being drafted in 2009. The Jazz and Thunder tried to make him fit in, but it never worked out. Maynor averaged just 4.3 points per game and hasn't played since 2013-14.
