NBA
3 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Basketball Plays for 1/31/17

Nicolas Batum, SG, Charlotte Hornets

FanDuel Price: $7,300

Why He Will Go Overlooked:

Nicolas Batum has played well recently and is in a good spot against the Portland Trail Blazers. However, a strong shooting guard player pool combined with his knack for dropping duds in big spots should keep his ownership down.

Why You Should Use Him:

Batum has now topped 30 FanDuel points in four of his past five games, a stretch during which he has averaged 33 FanDuel points in 37.4 minutes of playing time. Tonight, he will get to return to Portland to take on his former team, and given the level of defense played by Portland's guards, he should have every opportunity to maintain his recent level of play.

Portland has been average against shooting guards from a fantasy perspective, but the individual efforts of their shooting guards have been some of the worst in the league. Starting shooting guard C.J. McCollum ranks 79th among 98 qualified shooting guards in defensive real plus-minus (DRPM), a mark that backup Allen Crabbe ranks 96th in. Evan Turner is the best defender Batum will face tonight, and even he ranks just 56th among shooting guards in DRPM.

With everyone's attention focused on his teammate in Walker, Batum is very likely to fly under-the-radar, but he could just as easily go off in this matchup. His price, potential low ownership, and upside in this matchup make him an ideal tournament play.
