The 10 Worst NBA Teams of This Century
Dating back to 2000, which teams do our numbers say are the worst in recent history?

6. New Jersey Nets, 2009-10

nERD: 19.0

Of a team to play a full 82-game season, the New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets), at 12-70, are the team that won the least amount of games among these 10. It didn't help that they started out the season 0-18, the first and only time in league history that event has occurred.

Over the course of the season, the Nets had three different coaches at one point or another. The one and only bright spot was Brook Lopez, who tallied 7.9 win shares in 82 games. For perspective, that's just 3.2 less than the rest of the team combined (11.1). Needless to say, the Nets were not packed with talent.

The Nets weren't absolutely dreadful defensively, ranking just 25th in defensive efficiency that season, but they were dead last in offensive efficiency. Their 100.6 points per 100 possessions were 7 points below league-average and clearly bad enough to make them one of the worst teams we've seen since 2000.
