On a deadline day drenched in Cleveland Cavaliers talk (and for good reason), point guard Elfrid Payton snuck out of Orlando and landed in Phoenix, all for the low cost of just a single second-round pick.
Although it can’t be described as a ‘perfect’ landing spot for Payton, it’s a pretty darn good one. He immediately slots in as the Suns’ best point guard, and he has an opportunity to build on what has been his most efficient scoring season of his young career. His 54.7% effective field goal percentage easily tops his previous career high of 49.3%.
Averaging just over 30 FanDuel points per game this season, Payton has some room to improve his fantasy production playing alongside a scorcher like Devin Booker, but we’re still aiming for a salary in the low $7,000 range or below moving forward.
The love for this move derives mostly from the Suns doing a nice job of acquiring skills they need now while also leaving the door open for a potential long-term option at the point guard spot in exchange for virtually no risk. And as a helpful kicker to us daily fantasy players, Payton is a more attractive fantasy option in his new threads.
