There will be a lot of plays in Friday's late game between the currently 2-seeded Golden State Warriors and 3-seeded Portland Trail Blazers. Most will come at a high cost in an obvious spot, but Ed Davis is definitely not one of them.
Through 65 games (all off the bench), Davis is averaging 19 minutes and 18 FanDuel points. Over the last seven, he's been more of a factor. He has logged an average of 21.5 minutes with five games of at least 20 minutes and two beyond the 25-minute mark. Over this stretch, Davis has grabbed double-digit rebounds on four occasions all while shooting 63.6% from the floor. He's feeding off the MVP-caliber play of Damian Lillard, and tonight's matchup could bode well for him getting more minutes.
The Warriors will be without Stephen Curry, but there's also the chance that they're absent the services of guys like Andre Iguodala and David West. The two veterans missed last night's game, leading to 36 minutes of Draymond Green and additional minutes for JaVale McGee and Kevon Looney. Kevin Durant joined Green in playing at least six minutes as the team's small-ball center. For the Blazers, that should mean more Davis over the slow-footed Jusuf Nurkic.
And if that's how they address the matchup, Davis should capitalize against a Golden State team allowing the most (11.0) offensive rebounds per game.
