According to reports, Marc Gasol is expected to sit out Thursday's game. Given the recent Tyreke Evans debacle, it's worth a second and third check today, but if Gasol is, in fact, out, Deyonta Davis is the go-to at center for Memphis.
In Gasol's stead, Davis has made three starts this season, and though his 14.7 FanDuel points per game haven't set the world on fire, he has averaged 0.94 FanDuel points per minute in 648 minutes without Gasol. A large chunk of his value stems from a 15.3% rebound rate and 21.4% defensive rebound rate.
There is reason to be both optimistic and skeptical about Davis tonight. In nearly 21 minutes, he double-doubled with 32.2 FanDuel points against Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers a night ago. On the other hand, he could be matching up with a red-hot Dwight Howard (emphasis on could), and Howard's size might be a problem for Davis on the defensive end, possibly leading to foul trouble. But if Howard is suspended, it eases a lot of the concern with Davis.
