In daily fantasy basketball, finding players you want to roster is a lot easier than finding players to avoid.
You can find a ton of great information and research on guys you might want to include in your DFS NBA lineups, but what about guys you may want to lessen your exposure to, or even fade altogether?
Avoiding players whose matchups or situations aren't as great as they seem can often be just as important as finding the best targets. After all, it takes only one player to sink a lineup. Searching for the landmines could mean the difference between winning and losing your contests. Which players should we avoid tonight?
Dennis Schroder, PG, Atlanta Hawks
FanDuel Price: $7,100
Dennis Schroder has been hit-or-miss this season on the road, and tonight might be one of the misses when the Atlanta Hawks travel to play the Toronto Raptors.
So far this season, Kyle Lowry and the Raptors have held opposing point guards to 0.87 FanDuel points per minute. When you combine that with Schroder's road struggles, the Hawks' point guard profiles as a risky investment tonight. He is surely still a tournament play who could go overlooked, but considering he owns a 39.9% shooting percentage and a 24.4% three-point percentage on the road, it's a tough night to roster Schroder.
Tomas Satoransky, PG, Washington Wizards
FanDuel Price: $5,600
Tomas Satoransky has done a nice job filling in for John Wall after the Washington Wizards' star point guard underwent knee surgery. But tonight, Satoransky has a very tough matchup against Goran Dragic and the Miami Heat, which could limit his fantasy production.
The Heat are the sixth-best team at defending point guards, allowing only 0.87 FanDuel points per minute to the position. A lot of that has to do with the defense of Dragic. The All-Star point guard is holding players he defends to just 41.7% shooting from the floor this year.
Wesley Matthews, SG, Dallas Mavericks
FanDuel Price: $4,900
Wesley Matthews sat out the Dallas Mavericks' loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, and he is officially questionable for Tuesday with a hip injury. It doesn't sound like it's anything serious, but with the Mavs in tank mode, it gives DFS players little to no reason to take a chance on Matthews tonight, even if he does suit up.
The Nuggets are limiting shooting guards to 0.79 FanDuel points per minute this season, and a lot of that has to do with Gary Harris' defense. Harris is holding players he defends to 45.0% shooting from the floor and 33.9% shooting from three-point land. Plus, in nine career games against Harris, Matthews is shooting only 33.7% from the floor.
