One of the keys to finding success in daily fantasy basketball is uncovering potential value plays. If you're looking to roster a stud player or two, you need to consider squeezing in one of these lower-priced options into your lineup.
Let's take a look at three players who can help fill in the gaps in your lineup.
Tyler Johnson, PG, Brooklyn Nets ($4,000)
Tell me if you sense a theme in today's edition. I try to provide picks beyond the obvious on normal days, but just play your Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. This is one of the largest injury deficits of the 2019-20 season, as Brooklyn is without Kyrie Irving, Spencer Dinwiddie, and DeAndre Jordan already, and Tuesday it gets even worse, as Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, and Joe Harris will all miss the contest as well.
Realistically, Brooklyn stood no chance against the healthy Milwaukee Bucks anyway, so this is incredibly strategic. It should have a ripple effect with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton perhaps in danger of still being rested as well, as this Nets squad will be, well, not very good. But, there is fantasy value to be had from that, with no active roster member higher than $4,000, and several going to see heavy, heavy minutes.
With such a messy situation, I prioritize talent and potential to play in a blowout for the Nets on Tuesday. Tyler Johnson takes that cake, as the former starting point guard for the Miami Heat is used to having plenty of usage on a solid team. He will likely start and see upwards of thirty minutes, currently projected for 33.1 by numberFire. Consider me bullish on Johnson, as I cannot see the Nets offense running through anyone besides the veteran, and he should play a lot to determine his potential place on this squad moving forward.
Chris Chiozza, PG, Brooklyn Nets ($4,000)
A little unfortunate is that Johnson and Chris Chiozza are listed at the same position on FanDuel, but with so many options elsewhere in the stud department, it definitely makes sense to stack these Nets together at the point spot. Chiozza and Johnson should play together and take turns generating the offense, and numberFire agrees, expecting Chiozza to well exceed value with 29.8 FanDuel points on Tuesday.
Take the over on the 28.4 minute projection, because while Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Garrett Temple will both play both heavy minutes, it likely be in the front-court plenty as well where the Nets are totally barren. For reference, only
Rodions Kurucs, PF, Brooklyn Nets ($3,600)
For as messy as the back-court seems for Brooklyn, the front-court is anyone's guess. With Jarrett Allen's 36 minutes from Sunday gone, the best guess for his minutes is Rodions Kurucs, who saw all 12 minutes Allen was off the floor as the tallest man at the five spot. Given that he played Sunday, he will likely play heavy minutes there.
No other active Brooklyn Net is taller than 6'9", and that is Donta Hall, who will probably see time at the four spot next to Kurucs as well. Dzanan Musa will see time in the frontcourt as well, but did not see the floor Sunday. Minutes are minutes, however, and the 22-year old Kurucs will play plenty of them no matter the conditions of what should be an ugly contest in Orlando. Paging rebuilding era legend "Showtime" Willie Reed if he is still out there somewhere, as Brooklyn needs some help at the big man spot for this contest.
