The Best of the BestKobe Bryant - Here's what you need to know about the Dallas Mavericks: they're No. 19 in defensive rating, No. 28 in how often they allow opponents to get to the free throw line, and small forward Vince Carter has an average 106 defensive rating himself. With a potential playoff birth on the line and fellow top option LeBron out, you'd have to pry me away by my cold, dead hands from Kobe tonight. It's telling that Kobe has scored 30+ in three of his five games since returning from injury and had 11+ assists in the other two. Carmelo Anthony - Udonis Haslem is likely to receive extended playing time for the Heat tonight, and that should be a boon for Carmelo Anthony. Haslem has allowed opposing power forwards to shoot a .533 effective field goal percentage (eFG%) against him this season, and his 103 defensive rating is two points higher than LeBron's. With Tyson Chandler questionable and Amar'e still out as well, Melo may need to shoulder even more of the load tonight. Chris Bosh - No LeBron, no Wade, and the Big Three has been reduced to the Lonely One for tonight's game. And for Bosh, that's the best possible outcome for potential points. It certainly looked that way against defensively tough San Antonio, whom Bosh torched for 23 points and 9 rebounds. Despite their record, the Knicks aren't exactly the most efficient defensive team in the NBA: they sit 17th in defensive rating and 22nd in defensive eFG%. Top Mid-Range ValuesJimmy Butler - Another team with injury concerns, the Bulls will be without D-Rose (of course), Joakim Noah, and Marco Belinelli for tonight's game. It's that last one that's important in this case: Butler has played at least 39 minutes in each of Chicago's past four games as his replacement. Tonight, we hop on the bandwagon as well, even against a solid Washington defense. His cost hasn't quite caught up to his production in most formats quite yet. Pau Gasol - You'd think the Mavericks would be solid with Dirk at power forward, but the statistics tell another story. They have allowed opposing power forwards to shoot .502 eFG% from the field this season, and Mavs' power forwards collect 1.3 fewer rebounds per game than their opponents. Gasol's riding three straight games with at least a dozen points, and his two rebounds against Sacramento seems to be an outlier in the face of his four straight 8+ rebound games prior. O.J. Mayo - O.J. Mayo went 1-13 against the Bulls on Saturday, causing his daily fantasy bandwagon to capsize without life vests. However, we're in business of taking advantage of inefficiencies, and Mayo just created a large one with that performance. Especially against the Lakers' 20th defensive rating and 16th defensive eFG%, we expect him to regress to the mean with a much stronger performance than against the defensively tough Bulls. |
