The Best of the BestKevin Durant - Going against the Spurs' No. 3 defensive rating typically isn't the most advisable strategy, but with few high-priced options available on a three game day, what are you going to do? Take advantage of Kawhi Leonard's recent injury, for one. Coming back from injury and guarding Durant seems like a recipe for disaster, and we think his 12 game streak with 20+ points isn't in too much jeopardy tonight. Tony Parker - To be fair, going against OKC's No. 5 defense isn't much easier, but Tony Parker should be up to the task. In three games played with Manu Ginobili out, Parker has averaged 20.3 points and 6.7 assists against Memphis, Miami, and the Clippers. Especially coming off of two off days, he should be refreshed facing Russell Westbrook's solid, but not spectacular 103 defensive rating. Brook Lopez - Joakim Noah's out for yet another game, so bring on Nazr Mohammed for the Bulls. While Mohammed has been decent defensively (.491 effective field goal percentage allowed), he grabs 1.6 percent fewer available rebounds than the starter and blocks 1.2 percent fewer shots. That's just enough of a hole to give Lopez an average game tonight; he's put up at least 20 points in three of his last five games. Top Mid-Range ValuesJimmy Butler - 44-43-44-39-42. Yeah, Butler's getting his fair share of minutes with Marco Belinelli and Richard Hamilton still out of the lineup. Even if they don't always turn into points - Butler had 4 on 1-8 shooting against Dallas last week - regression to the mean indicates that they typically will. Butler's .492 eFG% ranks second on the Bulls, only behind Nate Robinson. Kenneth Faried - The "Dirk's actually kind of average" storyline keeps chugging forward, as Pau Gasol (14-10-6) and Carlos Boozer (25-11-2) have fully taken advantage of him over the past two games. While Faried may not have the offensive prowess of those two guys, Dallas's team 28th ranked offensive rebound rate should provide plenty of opportunities for Denver's most efficient defensive rebounder (23.3 percent of available defensive boards). O.J. Mayo - Yet another track meet is in order for Dallas: their fifth-ranked pace is set to take on Denver's second-ranked pace. Look, Mayo's going to have to regress to the mean eventually, and Tuesday against the Lakers (12 points, 5-10 shooting) indicates that his shoulder injury may just be healing as it should. Denver allows shooting guards to hit a pretty averaged .485 eFG% against them, meaning this isn't the worst matchup at all for Mayo because of his additional opportunities. |
