New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday (personal) is expected to miss "an indefinite period of time during the regular season" while serving as a caretaker for his wife and newborn.
"My family comes before basketball," Holiday said. "I'm obviously blessed to play this game and be in the position I am in, but my wife is the most important thing in the world to me. She comes before anything else." Doctors discovered a tumor on the right side of the brain of Holiday's wife, Lauren. Fortunately, the tumor is operable, but the procedure won't be able to be performed until she gives birth to their child. Doctors are confident that Lauren will return to full health and the Pelicans fully support Jrue in his decision. With the absence potentially stretching well into the regular season, Tim Frazier, Langston Galloway and E'Twaun Moore could all see more minutes to help fill the void.
Holiday finished the 2015-'16 campaign with averages of 16.8 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 boards, 1.4 steals, 1.3 treys and 2.6 turnovers in 28.2 minutes through 65 appearances. He earned a -0.8 nERD that ranked inside the league's top-100.
