J.R. Smith’s thumb surgery was completed on Friday morning and the Cavs announced his "return to play timeline is currently projected at 12-14 weeks."
Smith was initially tabbed with a four-to-six week timetable, so this was unexpected. He's not worth holding, but Iman Shumpert could be worth a look. DeAndre Liggins should provide spontaneous DFS value depending on the matchup.
Smith has not been having a strong season, and his -1.4 nERD ranks last among the 14 Cavaliers players to have seen the floor. He owns a career-low 14.8 percent usage rate in 21 games played.
