Our own Brett Oswalt has already looked in-depth at the 2015 Longhorns, but it never hurts to reiterate those points.
Texas is actually a top-20 team in terms of nERD, as their score of 19.11 ranks 19th in the country. That makes them one of the most underrated teams in the tournament. On their side is consistency (they're the 23rd-most consistent team in the country) and defense (they're better than 86.4 percent of schools in the country). Their offense ranks in the 75th percentile, as well.
Still, injuries and some untimely losses shook their tournament odds. Despite being a top-20 squad, our algorithms projected just a 65.25 percent chance to make the big dance before the selection committee delegated, and we pegged them for a 10 seed. They got an 11 seed and will face off with the not-so-hot Butler Bulldogs.
Based on their nERD, Texas is a very capable team, and their recent struggles might be forgotten if they can make the most of their landing in the Midwest region.
