Tajae Sharpe is one of two rookies who takes his place on our waiver wire recommendations list, and boy does he deserve to be on it. Sharpe wasn't drafted to a huge amount of fantasy football fanfare to the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round of the 2016 draft.
He isn't especially athletic, and there aren't many spots worse for a wide receiver certain to be buried on the depth chart than with the Titans.
Yet Sharpe built a buzz early on in OTAs when he’d surpassed Dorial Green-Beckham on the depth chart, even though it was then assumed that that was a motivational ploy to get Green-Beckham focused. But once Green-Beckham was traded a month ago, people began to take Sharpe's ascendance seriously.
To follow that up, he put forth a ridiculously productive preseason, suggesting that he might be the team's number-one receiver when the regular season rolled around. Judging by his 11-target, 7-catch, 76-yard outing on Sunday, that debate can be put to rest, and Sharpe needs to be rostered everywhere.
Perhaps Sharpe's production shouldn't be all that surprising. His College Dominator rating per Player Profiler ranks in the 72nd percentile, and his Breakout Age ranks in the 94th percentile. And in his first game as a pro, Sharpe put up a solid 8.08 Reception numberFire Live.
Sharpe's 0.73 Reception NEP per target translates to above-average efficiency, and while it's impossible to make grand proclamations off on one game, he is off to a good start and his role in the Titans' offense looks secure.
There's no reason a team's number-one receiver should be available in over half of all fantasy football leagues. Grab Sharpe with urgency when putting in your waiver claims for Week 2. He very well could end up being the most productive rookie wide receiver in 2016.
