Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 2
Don't get caught up in the recency bias: Washington linebacker Ryan Kerrigan is still really good in IDP fantasy football.

Cory Liuget, Defensive End

Speaking of unheralded 3-4 defensive ends, the AFC West features yet another of these players that isn’t getting the love they deserve. One way to get big discounts on interesting defensive players in your leagues is to look at what schemes they play in. More often than not, people will shun defensive linemen and outside linebackers from 3-4 defenses, but when you’re looking for streaming options, these players often tend to be available and -- if you do your research -- carry plenty of upside.

The San Diego ChargersCorey Liuget is one such player who is almost certainly on your waiver wire but absolutely shouldn’t be in Week 2. Liuget had a breakout second season in the NFL in 2012, putting up 51 tackles and 7.0 sacks, but hasn’t progressed or returned to that level of impact since. Still, with the potential for 5 to 7 sacks in a season and 45 to 60 tackles, Liuget does have his moments where he is a fantasy asset.

The Week 2 Chargers will go up against a Jacksonville Jaguars team that nearly out-dueled the Green Bay Packers but still showed plenty of holes in their armor. The Jaguars allowed 3 sacks last week on just 39 passing attempts, giving them a sack percentage allowed tied for 10th in 2016. With this offense predicated on throwing often and throwing deep, there should be plenty of chances for Liuget to rush the passer and put a hit or two on him. Adding to this, the Jaguars’ running backs got stuffed 6 times on 26 rushes in Week 1 -- the second-highest stuff percentage allowed.

Liuget is available in 97.4% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 3.42 tackles, 0.38 sacks, and a total score of 5.20 fantasy points in Week 2.
