Recency bias is an amazing thing. Washington outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan has lit up the league since he joined it in 2011, averaging 62 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and 6 stuffs per season over the first four years. In 2015, even, Kerrigan played through injuries and still picked up 9.5 sacks and four stuffs. So why is this high-octane week winner available on waiver wires? He demonstrated that upside again in Week 1 with two tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble (yet another skill he has demonstrably repeated over his career).
Week 2 will be a big test for Kerrigan and the Washington defense, going up against the stalwart Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line. The Cowboys have five first-round talents as starters on their line and gave up no sacks on quarterback Dak Prescott's first 45 passing attempts in Week 1. In addition, they have the 12th-lowest stuff percentage allowed so far in the 2016 season, paving a path for Ezekiel Elliott in the run game. Kerrigan is a good player and might be able to bust up this barricade, but it won’t be easy.
Kerrigan is available in 98.2% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 4.87 tackles, 0.79 sacks, 0.32 passes defended, and a total score of 7.64 fantasy points in Week 2.
