Your leading scorer at both the running back, wide receiver, or tight end position, David Johnson has proved to be worth the preseason hype. The former college receiver was a metrics darling following his impressive close to the 2015 season, but there was still an unknown factor for the sophomore back, who had just one 100 yard rushing game to his credit as a rookie.
Five games into the 2016 NFL season, Johnson has left little doubt about his status as the top back in fantasy football. With over 100 total yards in each of his games, his floor has been tremendous even while the Cardinals passing game has struggled to find itself.
Johnson is second in the NFL in Rushing Success Rate -- the percentage of positive runs made, per our Ezekiel Elliott among backs with more than 35 carries, and second among running backs in Reception NEP (points added on catches) at 14.96 behind only Tevin Coleman. He has scored double-digit fantasy points in every game, and has 15 or more touches in each contest.
With the season-ending injury to Chris Johnson, Johnson has this backfield to himself, and backup Andre Ellington has only eight carries on the season. On the field, Johnson has no limitations or competition for carries or backfield targets, and he would be well worth the top overall selection in fantasy drafts.
