Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 6
Marcus Gilchrist, Free Safety
The New York Jets’ Marcus Gilchrist has a matchup that’s the best of both worlds in Week 6. Gilchrist has been in roles that ask him to drop deep and ones that require him to play as an in-the-box tackler, but currently he is more of the deep safety valve -- the classic free safety roaming role. That means he won’t be involved in a ton of run defense tackles, but he’s gotten his fair share of tackle chances, averaging 4.2 tackles per week this season. He’s not a big-play guy, but he doesn’t need to be, as a big hitter/clean-up defensive back.
In Week 6, too, the Arizona Cardinals will be attacking Gilchrist’s defense and this is good news for him. First of all, quarterback Carson Palmer's 3.30 percent interception rate is eighth-most among quarterbacks with at least 100 passing attempts. Plus, this offense likes to throw downfield -- into Gilchrist’s zone -- which should allow him chances to make plays even if he’s hanging back to guard over the top of receivers.
Gilchrist is available in 96.5% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 4.96 tackles, 0.16 interceptions, 0.18 passes defended, and a total score of 6.42 fantasy points in Week 6.
