Plugging the Gaps: IDP Waiver Wire for Week 6
Nick Bellore checks all the boxes of an IDP player we want in our lineups for Week 6 onward.

Ross Cockrell, Cornerback

With defensive backs, attempting to play risky with low-snap situational guys isn’t the right strategy. The best thing to do to “buy low” on them is to grab guys playing a ton of snaps who find themselves in good matchups.

That’s what we have with Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ross Cockrell, who has played 99 percent of the Steelers’ defensive snaps this season. Cockrell is no big-play maven, but he’s a solid defensive back for fantasy purposes who stays on the field and gets enough attention that he’s fantasy-viable in most weeks. He’s not great in pass defense, with just five passes defended and no interceptions this year, but he has at least three total tackles each game so far this season, and is getting targeted on 19 percent of his coverage snaps (per Pro Football Focus).

His opponent this week is quarterback Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins, who has the second-highest interception rate of quarterbacks with at least 100 passing attempts, and Miami is the eighth-most pass-happy team in the NFL. Tannehill has thrown one interception in each of his last four games, and two in three of those. This could be the week Cockrell gets off the schneid.

Cockrell is available in 98.7% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 3.87 tackles, 0.26 interceptions, 1.07 passes defended, and a total score of 6.74 fantasy points in Week 6.
