Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill and wide receiver Kenny Stills have a lot in common: analysts and fans alike have given them a lot of negative press for inconsistent play and potentially lesser talent than we expected. But something is clicking between these two in 2016, and the deep ball has become a welcome addition to the Dolphins’ offensive repertoire.
It was on display again this past Sunday when the Dolphins iced their win against the division rival Buffalo Bills on one. With just 2:35 left, on 3rd-and-6, Tannehill took the snap out of the shotgun. He patiently waited, and then flicked his wrist to send the ball sailing down the right sideline. Stills was over there, working against Buffalo cornerback Ronald Darby. He beat the jam near the line and snagged the ball mid-cutback. Darby didn’t even see it coming, crashing into his teammate and allowing Stills a free route into the end zone for a 67-yard score.
