As of Thursday’s practice report, Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor was still not practicing with a groin injury. Backup Kelcie McCray stepped in for Chancellor last week, putting up seven total tackles and 6.5 fantasy points in his stead. This is a lucrative position as we’ve seen over the years, and McCray figures to play the most in the box.
Now, last week’s box score stuffing came against the run-heavy Arizona Cardinals. In Week 8, the Seahawks will face off against the New Orleans Saints, the most pass-heavy team in the league in pass-to-run play call ratio. McCray should still earn work covering tight end Coby Fleener as well, and lead back Mark Ingram has averaged 16 carries over his last four games. There is tackle volume to be had here, though it comes with a lower floor than some other options.
McCray is available in 100.0% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we project him for 4.84 tackles, 0.14 interceptions, 0.16 passes defended, and a total score of 6.00 fantasy points in Week 8.
