Alex Smith is one of the least exciting names in fantasy football, but he has shown a consistent ability to be at least serviceable over his career. With four QB1 (top-12) finishes this season, he offers some promising potential.
He posted a solid 20 fantasy points in Week 11, along with 15 last week despite having a nightmare matchup against the Denver Broncos, who have only allowed three other passers to cross the 15-fantasy point mark this season. His Week 13 matchup is on the opposite end of the spectrum, as he's taking on an Atlanta Falcons team that's allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks.
He's not a high-ceiling play, and you'll likely want to target someone with more week-winning upside if you're an underdog, but if you need someone that will simply be a solid stop-gap and doesn't risk sinking your lineup this week, Smith is a safe bet.
