Sometimes everything goes right, but you just run into a trap (cue Admiral Ackbar). No one can say the Falcons’ passing attack hasn’t been a lethal and dominant force this season, and they have been able to take advantage of even some good secondaries to make their impact felt. Not against Kansas City, however. The Chiefs were playing away, but they were also out of their minds on the defensive side of the ball against a very good offense. It certainly helps when hometown hero safety Eric Berry makes a big play to turn the tide.
In the waning seconds of the second quarter, the Falcons were attempting to drive down the field and score before the half to break a 13-all deadlock. Quarterback Matt Ryan, arguably the best passer this season, calmly surveyed the field before delivering a rocket to wide receiver Taylor Gabriel that should’ve gone for at least 20 yards. Instead, Berry jumped the laser and took it right back the other way, breaking tackles and outracing opponents on his way to a 37-yard interception return touchdown. Talk about a homecoming.
