Big man touchdowns are my favorite thing to see in football. Whenever a lineman or fullback scores, it just makes my day. That’s why it was so great to see Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell earn a bucket of accolades for this impressive second-quarter play against the New Orleans Saints.
Campbell lines up as the right-side defensive end for the Cards, usually, but in the 3-4 defensive scheme they run, the down linemen don’t often get much chance to make big plays. That’s why most of the props on this play go to rush linebacker Markus Golden, who bent the edge to strip-sack quarterback Drew Brees. Like with Horton, a lucky bounce scooted the ball right into Campbell’s waiting arms, and he rumbled the ball back into the end zone for a 53-yard return score.
