3. Aikens’ Building Blocks

The Miami Dolphins haven’t been able to point to their defense as a point of pride many times in the 2016 season, but Week 15 was a major exception. The Dolphins’ defensive unit knocked around the New York Jets all day, even in the special teams phase of the game.

Jets punter Lac Edwards was just hoping to get the ball away after a stalled drive early in the second half, but he got no protection on the right side of his line. Miami safety Walt Aikens screamed around the end of the line, simply put up his hands, and knocked the ball down. For a second, neither team could locate the ball, but Aikens saw it twenty yards from the line of scrimmage, scooped it, and scored. A block, a recovery, a touchdown. Not a bad thing to build upon.
