numberFire's Jim Sannes wrote a very useful article in January on how kickers performed based on measures such as Vegas spreads, implied totals, and favorites versus underdogs. Based on his findings, we need to target kickers on heavily-favored teams, with implied team total as the tiebreaker.
In Week 16, Stephen Gostkowski is the only kicker on a team favored by 10 or more points. The Patriots are favored by a whopping 16.5 points versus the Jets. According to Sannes, kickers on teams favored by 10 or more points scored an average of 9.77 points per game between 2012-2014.
New England has the highest implied total of the weekend slate at 30 points. Sannes found that kickers on teams with an implied total of 30 or more points scored an average of 10.64 fantasy points per game.
Gostkowski has the upside of the top kicker on the slate and is priced at $4,800, just $300 above the FanDuel minimum. That makes him a nice option for those who want to spend up at other positions.
