To be successful on Sunday, the Falcoms must make Tom Brady uncomfortable in the pocket. The Patriots have been one of the best in the league in keeping Brady on his feet, and he was sacked only 4.26% of the time in 2016.
To beat the Patriots, a recipe becomes clear in analyzing arguably Brady's four worst performances of 2016 (Week 10 against Seattle, Week 13 against Los Angeles, Week 15 against Denver, and the Divisional Round against Houston). Brady was sacked six times in those contests, but has only been sacked 19 times all year. In those 4 contests, Brady completed only 60.8% of his passes (down from 67.4% in the regular season), and he threw for a mere 1,060 yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
But as our J.J. Zachariason noted, the recipe isn't simply to blitz Brady, but to pressure him, or it'll be a long day. The Falcons have one of the league's elite pass-rushers in second-year man Vic Beasley, and per Sporting Charts, checked in fourth-best this year in quarterback hurries.
If the Falcons can continue to pressure Brady without blitzing, they will find a lot of success.
