It's looking like Jack Doyle will be the main man at tight end for the Colts this year, though Erik Swoope will certainly be in the mix. This is a big deal. Because when Andrew Luck hasn't been banged up over the last handful of seasons -- 2014 and 2016 -- Indy tight ends have been statistically great.
Year | Receptions Rank | Yards Rank | Touchdowns Rank |
---|---|---|---|
2016 | 5th | 3rd | 2nd |
2014 | 5th | 2nd | 1st |
Last year, Doyle and the now-departed Dwayne Allen combined for 11 targets (Doyle had 6, Allen had 5) within the 10-yard line, which was more than any other tight end in football aside from Kyle Rudolph. Even if half of Allen's targets from that area of the field go to Doyle, we're looking at potential top-five close-to-the-end-zone usage.
Even though Doyle's athletic profile is lacking (he ran a freaking 4.91 40), his situation is pretty elite. That makes him more than worthy of a double-digit round pick in fantasy.
