Fantasy Football: 10 Sleeper Running Backs to Target in 2017
These are the high-upside running backs to look for late in your fantasy draft, according to our football staff.

Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard's ADP has fallen by two full rounds in PPR leagues this summer. He hasn't suffered an injury or gotten suspended -- he's practicing and should be ready for Week 1.

So why the drop? Joe Mixon fever. Mixon has looked good, but don't be fooled: that's not enough of a reason to fade Bernard.

For starters, Bernard owns one of the richest running back contracts in the league, so Cincinnati will be hard-pressed to keep him off the field. But even beyond politics, since 2013, Bernard has a higher Reception NEP per target than Le'Veon Bell and Darren Sproles. He's a gifted receiver with a great reputation as a pass protector. He should maintain a big role in the passing game.

Bernard has averaged 13.1 PPR points per game in his career. Since 2000, only 21 of 40 second-round running backs have averaged more than half that amount. Just 10 have averaged more than 13 points per game. Odds are against Mixon being an immediate three-down stud. There should be plenty of work left for Bernard. (And, despite coming off an injury, Bernard has a lower risk of injury than Mixon. Bernard benefits if Mixon misses time.)

Bernard should easily outperform his draft position despite the presence of Mixon. —Charlie Kleinheksel
