Now, I know what you're thinking when first reading that title. A 36-year-old who tore his achilles last season caught eight passes Sunday and it's NOT a fluke?? But hear me out.
The Baltimore Ravens attempted the most raw passes in both 2015 (676 attempts) and 2016 (679). Last season specifically, Joe Flacco targeted Dennis Pitta with 18.3% of his total passing attempts, the highest mark among all Ravens receivers. But wait -- there's more.
Though Baltimore's league-high 58% run rate through Week 2 tells a different story from the type of play-calling we've grown accustomed to from the Ravens in past years, they still regressed from a 70% run rate in Week 1 all the way to a less-balanced 47% run rate this past Sunday. Baltimore has also favored passing in neutral game scripts (one-score margins) thus far, running at a 7% rate below league average in these types of situations. That, of course, bodes well for Benjamin Watson, who recorded a team-high 24.2% target share when the team reverted to their more common offensive approach Sunday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars currently rank 19th overall in Success Rate allowed to tight ends (58.8%) and among the bottom three in raw fantasy points permitted at the position. Watson makes for more than just a 'dart throw' in all formats seeing as he'll likely continue being peppered with targets in an offense that has preferred to air it out in recent years.
