Case Keenum, QB, Minnesota Vikings
25 for 33, 369 Yards, 3 Touchdowns
Performance Score: 99; NEP: +28.71
For the second time in as many years, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense had no answers for backup quarterback Case Keenum.
In 2016, quarterbacking the juggernaut Jeff Fisher-led Los Angeles Rams, Keenum led his team to season-high 37 points, throwing 2 touchdowns and helping Tavon Austin look worth his top-10 draft pedigree.
In 2017, this time as the backup for the Minnesota Vikings, Keenum was tremendous, posting a 99 Performance Score and leading the Sam Bradford-less Vikings to an easy 34-17 thrashing of the Bucs. Keenum finished the game with a career high 369 passing yards to go along with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, good for an outstanding Passing NEP of 28.71. Keenum was untouched by the Tampa Bay defense all day, and he used that clean pocket to toss downfield bombs to Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen with pinpoint accuracy.
With Bradford battling inflammation on his surgically repaired knee, there is uncertainty as to how long the Vikings will need Keenum to fill in, but unless the Tampa defense remains on the schedule every week, it seems unlikely that he can maintain anything near this level of proficiency. Still, it is an encouraging win and a dash of optimism for a Vikings team with playoff aspirations.
