There aren't many times where you recommend dropping a player who has seven 1,000-yard rushing campaigns under their belt. But last week, we told you to drop Adrian Peterson, and it's Chris Johnson's turn to get the axe this week.
Johnson's career from 2008-2013 was incredibly impressive, particularly his 2009 season where he put up 2,509 total yards from scrimmage, an NFL record that still holds today. His days as a fantasy football commodity are done, though.
After being re-signed by the Arizona Cardinals when David Johnson went on injured reserve, it was fair to assume that Johnson would get the bulk of the rushing workload given the rest of the personnel in the Cardinals' backfield.
And while that's definitely true, Johnson's doing absolutely nothing with it, registering a putrid 16.67% Rushing Success Rate -- the percentage of runs that contribute positively to NEP -- on 36 carries.
With the Cardinals unable to register any success on the ground, they've settled for throwing the ball. A lot. With a 3.36:1 pass-to-run ratio from Weeks 2 through 4 and Johnson receiving only 5 targets out of the 150 total passes during that time, the back to own in Arizona isn't Chris Johnson -- it's Andre Ellington, who's averaging 9 targets per game since Week 2.
If you're old enough to remember Johnson's incredible 2009 campaign, never forget it. But if you want to win this year, it's time to move on.
