Entering last week, it seemed the Miami Dolphins and Jay Cutler were on the brink of becoming a laughingstock, going on the road to play the Atlanta Falcons after barely squeaking by a Matt Cassel-led Titans team.
But the Dolphins engineered a second half comeback, rallying from a 17-0 halftime deficit to win 20-17. Most importantly for our purposes here, the Dolphins D continued its solid play early in the season. Per numberFire metrics, the Dolphins defense has been the 10th-best through six weeks, and now they host a New York Jets team that has given up the 12th-most points per game to opposing defenses.
So far this season, four of the six teams to face the Jets have finished inside the top-12 of weekly scoring. Additionally, Josh McCown has been sacked 19 times, 6th-most on the season, and he's thrown 6 interceptions, 5th-most in the league.
Vegas projected this to be a low scoring game with a 38.5 over/under, the lowest on the week -- but the Dolphins are a 3-point home favorite. While the Jets have been a surprise story early this season, they face a difficult test on the road, and the Dolphins defense could be in for a big day.
