NFL
Fantasy Football: 4 Unexpectedly Great Week 9 Performances

Julius Thomas, TE, Miami Dolphins

NFL.Com Start Percentage: 2%
Week 9 Fantasy Points: 14.4

Julius Thomas was the top-performing fantasy tight end in Week 9, but stop me if you've heard this before: the weekly volatility at tight end makes it hard to expect a repeat performance.

Thomas' 84 receiving yards were more than he managed in the three previous games, and his touchdown was his first in almost a year (the last one came on November 13th, 2016 with Jacksonville, against Houston). It also probably helped that Thomas' Miami Dolphins were facing the Oakland Raiders, our 31st-ranked passing defense.

Sure, there's a chance that without Jay Ajayi, the Dolphins pass a bit more. That's a mighty fine thread upon which to hang any hopes, though. Leave Thomas safely on the waiver wire.
