Your fantasy football MVP ballot through 10 weeks undoubtedly has Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley on it, and he has far and away been the most productive and consistent running back in the NFL. He ranks first at running back in fantasy points per game, total fantasy points, total touchdowns, and total yards. The new coaching staff has clearly maximized his involvement in all phases of the offense.
Certainly when it comes to the fantasy football playoffs, you aren’t benching Gurley, especially considering he has been amazing despite facing one of the more difficult schedules in the NFL. That said, it’s disappointing to know that his playoffs will feature games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Seahawks and Titans.
Gurley's least effective game to date was his Week 5 matchup against Seattle, when he posted a mere 50 total yards with a fumble. He faces them again in Week 15 before finishing off things against the Titans, who rank second in the league in run D, per our numbers.
Our metrics rank the Eagles 13th against the run, and Philly is clearly no cake walk given the depth of their front seven. While it certainly is possible for Gurley to have success against these teams given his volume and passing-game involvement, the potential for a huge game that will propel you to a championship isn't super likely.
Again, Gurley isn’t a player anyone can afford to leave on their bench when the games really matter, but he’s certainly a player who could disappoint during the fantasy playoffs.
