Earlier this week Washington placed Rob Kelley on season-ending injured reserve. Moving forward, Samaje Perine is expected to handle the bulk of the early-down work, with Chris Thompson limited to passing downs and change-of-pace duties. While the rookie has not been extremely productive -- he owns a per-carry average of 3.2 on the season -- Perine will be in line for a good amount of volume. Opportunities to produce is all we can ask for from running backs, especially those available in over two-thirds of leagues.
In his lone start of the year, Perine was a busy man as he toted the rock 19 times. Even in an underdog role against the New Orleans Saints, Washington will continue to run the ball, giving Perine plenty of cracks at a defense that ranks 30th in the NFL by allowing 4.7 yards per rush. The Saints can be had on the ground as they allow over 110 yards per game and own the second-worst rush defense in the NFL, per our schedule-adjusted metrics.
