Doug Martin was back at practice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, but in his absence in Week 13, Peyton Barber saw 23 carries and 4 targets while playing 68% of offensive snaps.

Even if Martin returns to action, Barber's strong showing (he racked up 143 yards from scrimmage) gives him a good shot to get the first crack at being the lead back. Martin has been one of the league's least efficient backs this year, with his -0.12 Rushing NEP per carry ranking 53rd among the 64 backs with 50-plus carries. Barber, on the other hand, ranks 11th with a 0.04.

numberFire's models have the Detroit Lions ranking bottom-10 against the run. Combining that with the top-five fantasy production they're allowing to opposing running backs makes this a spot Barber offers some fantasy appeal even if Martin suits up.
