With Doug Martin inactive on Monday against the Atlanta Falcons due to a "rule violation," Peyton Barber took over lead duties on his way to 16 touches for 68 total yards despite game flow working against him. Barber has been making moves in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' backfield lately. He saw 27 touches in Week 13 when Martin was out with a concussion and 13 touches even when Martin started in Week 14. It's reasonable to believe that, even if Martin plays this week, this is Barber's backfield now.

However, Barber is in an unenviable spot against the Carolina Panthers this week. The Panthers rank 13th against the run by our schedule-adjusted metrics, and considering the Bucs are 10-point road underdogs, he could find himself once again in a negative game script with the team trying to play catch-up. The Bucs have an underwhelming 18.25-point implied team total as well.

There's also always the concern that old school coach Dirk Koetter stubbornly keeps Martin heavily involved again even though he's been thoroughly outplayed by Barber. In all, despite a low price point, Barber's ceiling appears limited in Week 16.
