This is by no means a hard fast avoid at all costs situation, but it's definitely one that needs close monitoring. By now, most teams have made it fairly clear whether or not they're planning to rest their players, with teams like the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers already indicating that Todd Gurley and Le'Veon Bell will sit out Week 17.
However, the Dallas Cowboys have been a bit more murky about their intentions. On Wednesday, coach Jason Garrett plainly stated, “Anybody who is healthy is going to play in this game," indicating that he doesn't plan to rest his starters. And yet, earlier in the week, Jerry Jones said it would be a "good opportunity" for the younger players to get some snaps.
Gee, thanks guys.
So what is one to do? At the very least it's a good idea to avoid Ezekiel Elliott and friends in your cash games. Even if Garrett sticks to his word of playing his starters, there's no guarantee they play the entire game, particularly if they get out to a big lead against an unmotivated Philadelphia Eagles team that already clinched the NFC's top seed.
That said, given the number of top options who won't be available in Week 17, it's not the worst idea to consider a talent like Elliott in large-field tournaments in case the Cowboys actually go all-out. Just know the risks before you click that add button.
