The NFL's 10 Best Deep-Ball Wide Receivers in 2017
Tyreek Hill helped propel Alex Smith to a career year in 2017 thanks to his insane abilities down the field. Who else excelled on deep passes this past year?

5. Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings

Deep Targets: 28 | Target NEP per Target: 1.08 | Success Rate: 53.57%

Whoever winds up quarterbacking the Vikings next year is a blessed individual. They will not be short on weapons at wide receiver.

Between the aforementioned Thielen and Stefon Diggs, the Vikings' quarterbacks had 72 deep throws this year. Those throws resulted in 40 receptions (a 54.8% completion percentage, better than DeShone Kizer's full-season mark) for 1,070 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 1 interception. That is legitimately bonkers. Both these guys are full-on studs.

Because they were able to do this regardless of quarterback, it does make you wonder how much of a role the individual quarterbacks played in the offense's success. Is it possible they were just in a system that was primed to succeed with game-changing receivers and a re-tooled offensive line? That's fully within the realm of possibilities, potentially giving the Vikings more flexibility at the position this offseason.

What seems a bit more definitive is that Diggs and Thielen can put up quality fantasy stats no matter who's at the helm. Genuinely good receivers can elevate the play of quarterbacks, and when you've got two of them (plus Kyle Rudolph at tight end), you're set up for success. We likely shouldn't fret too much about the quarterback situation when assessing the value of these two guys heading into 2018.
