Why This Is Bold: Only five tight ends hit the eight-touchdown mark last year, while two got there the year before. Kittle, meanwhile, is being drafted as the TE13.
Why This Will Happen: Kittle didn't see a ton of looks go his way when Jimmy Garoppolo took over last year (10.80% target share), but his 8.17 yards per target rate ranked 15th all time among rookie tight ends with 20 or more catches. Most importantly, Kittle saw the sixth-most red zone targets and the 10th-most targets from within the opponent's 10-yard line at the tight end position last year.
Remember, he was a rookie.
If the 49ers can keep up their end-of-2017 pace, they'll have some positive touchdown regression coming offensively -- when Jimmy G took over last year, they were first in yards per drive and scores per drive, but 10th in touchdowns per drive. So, with Kittle, you're getting a potential red zone threat in an offense with a good quarterback that's also got the upside of scoring more touchdowns than they did a year ago.
Kittle's been sidelined with a separated shoulder, but he's expected to be back by Week 1. If you -- and he -- can get past the injury, the eight touchdown total is feasible.
