8 Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 1

Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Mixon is getting plenty of love in Cincinnati, but it's not time to write off Giovani Bernard just yet.

Even after taking over starting duties in the second half of the 2017 season, Mixon had his fair share of quiet games. He was held to single-digit carries in three of his seven starts, and saw more than three targets only once in those seven games. Despite Mixon being the starter, Bernard saw at least 10 carries in each of the final five games of the season, with at least five targets in four of those contests.

The two are also more than capable of co-existing, as they don't fight over the same touches.

In 2017, 14.3% of Bernard's carries and 36.7% of his targets (22.4% of the two combined) came on third down. For Mixon, that was only true of 3.4% of his carries and 11.8% of his targets, or 4.7% of his total opportunities (targets + carries).

As underdogs against the Colts, there should be no shortage of passing game work available for Bernard, and as I touched on for Dalton, getting that work against Indianapolis should mean big things for his efficiency as well.
